Network Rail - National Operations Council - Major Job Losses for Signalling Grades
Dear Member,
I thought I would let you know as soon as possible that at today's National Operations Council meeting Network Rail announced that under its long term operations strategy it intends to reduce dramatically the number of Signallers it currently employs.
Network Rail intends to reduce Signallers from the current level of 6,000 to 2,000 over the next 30 years. They believe that they will be able to do this by centralising Signalboxes and, no doubt, as a result of fast moving new technologies. It is also their intention to reduce the ECRO Centres from the 13 to 2 and half the number of ECROs they employ.
The Union has made it clear that it will not accept any compulsory redundancies, that we expect Network Rail to abide by the current Promotion Transfer and Redundancy Arrangements (PTR&R) and in addition we will be seeking a shorter working week, increased annual leave and voluntary retirement at 55.
I will let you have further details as soon as possible.
